As Peter conlcudes chapter one he does so with a continued discussion of the results of sanctification in our lives. Peter reminds us that because we are saved we will continue to grow in our love for one another and the Lord. Love in the life of a believer is not a momentary thing but an eternal reaction to the work of salvation and presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. We are continually developing our love for the Lord and our love for one another as a result of the saving power of the Gospel and the sanctifying work of the Spirit.
